Charged with wilful murder almost a year after the disappearance of his ex wife, Susan Christie, Rory Christie spent three years in prison away from his son and family.
In October 2003, after a trial lasting one month and involving 102 witnesses, Christie was convicted of murder and sentenced to imprisonment for life.
The case against Christie was entirely circumstantial and through the arduous work of volunteers and his legal team fresh evidence was gathered which assisted in the success of the appeal after his conviction. Christie was ordered to a retrial to which was later thrown out by the judge because the evidence could not sustain a guilty verdict.
